The Highway
50 Association Rules of the Road The Hwy 50 Association Wagon Train Wagon Master will be in complete charge of the Wagon Train. Any problems or questions should be directed to her or her designated assistant for resolution. |
1.
No one under the age of 18 years will be accepted unless accompanied
by a parent or legal guardian. An appropriate signed release must be presented for filing with the Wagon Train Registrar. |
2.
Teamsters or other participants may not assume responsibility of a minor
unless they present parental permission In Writing, a
copy to be attached to registration form. |
3.
Every Participant is required to register and complete the appropriate
registration forms. |
4.
Your issued identification is non-transferable and must be visible at all times. |
5.
All participants must be in 1840's to 1860's Western or Mountain Man
attire suitable to the Wagon Train theme, for the entire trip. No Baseball
caps, t-shirts, tennis shoes, bare midriffs, shorts, cutoffs, halter
tops. |
6.
Horse riders and wagons will be assigned positions within the train
by the Wagon Master. |
7.
All wagons, buggies, etc., are for the sole use of the owner or owner's
designated teamster. |
8.
There will be NO stud horses allowed on any part of the trip. |
9.
A notorious kicking horse shall be identified by a Red Ribbon on its
tail, and will stay at the rear of the train. |
10.
No ponying of colts or animals by teamsters or outriders. |
11.
No bareback riding in camp or on the road without permission from the Wagon
Master. |
12.
All animals are to be kept off lawns and out of food service areas. |
13.
When traveling, riders stay on the pavement or road and within the width of the wheelbase
of the wagon, and always to the RIGHT of the center line. |
14.
There will be no riding double at any time, on or off the highway. |
15.
Horses shall be kept at a walk in all camp and eating areas. |
16.
All wagons, buggies, etc., shall be of the authentic era. |
17.
Participants will be taken off the wagon train if they consume any
alcoholic beverage or have any open containers of alcohol or soda pop
(cans or bottles) while traveling on the highway or any public street
while the train is in progress. |
18.
Highway 50 Association will furnish, to the best of its ability,
overnight parking for the wagons and horses, and space for One vehicle for each wagon and working Buckskinner. We will try to accommodate
as many of the remaining vehicles as possible at our overnight areas.
If there is not enough room, the remainder of the vehicles will have
to make their own arrangements. There will be NO SHUTTLING of
vehicles ahead of the Wagon Train unless otherwise notified by the
Wagon Master. Violators will be asked to leave. Shuttle service
will be provided after the Wagon Train has been parked for the night.
Only one (1) designated driver will be allowed per vehicle to be shuttled.
Shuttle passes will be issued at the time of registration. There will
be no parking of vehicles in the designated overnight areas without
authorization (Official Parking Pass displayed). |
19.
No advertising without consent and approval of the Wagon Train Committee.
Sponsors signs will be in proportion to the size of the wagon or buggy. |
20.
There will be NO DOGS ALLOWED without the prior consent of the Wagon
Master. |
21. No live ammunition or blanks will be allowed. |
22.
It is recommended that horses be shod. Borium, composition, or caulked
shoes. |
23.
Some suggested equipment include canteens, rain gear, lead ropes and halters,
sleeping bags, water bucket, salt tablets, electrolytes, first aid kits
for both animals and humans, folded quilt or pillow for wagon seat,
sunscreen. |
24.
Absolutely NO WALKING with train. |
25.
Any participant will be taken off the Wagon Train for chemical abuse
(this includes alcohol), unnecessary profanity, or disorderly conduct.
This is a Bi-State recognized historic event with a good reputation.
We need to work together to maintain this honored status. |
26.
Due to precise schedules worked out with the California Highway Patrol,
Cal-Trans, and the Highway 50 Association, any participant not ready
to leave when the train pulls out will be left behind. Stragglers will
NOT be allowed to catch up. |
General Information
1.
Every Participant is required to register! Each participant will be
issued identification, which must be displayed at all times. |
2.
Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
A properly executed registration, minor's release and medical release
must be presented with the registration form. |
3. This is our 60th Anniversary run, during which we may enjoy the participant of school children having a non-classroom Living History experience. Please register early as space is limited. Include your check or money order with your form. Checks will be deposited after May 23rd, 2009. If you decide to cancel prior to that time, your original check will be returned. For one day riders, there will be a daily registration prior to breakfast. No registration will be accepted after the June 6 Rendezvous at 8:00 p.m., with the departure June 7 from Zephyr Cove. |
4.
A limited number of seats are available for wagon passengers. Every
effort will be made to accommodate your needs. However, seating cannot
be guaranteed beyond "first come-first assigned" with registrations. |
5.
Make all checks and money orders payable to Highway 50 Association.
Pre-registration fees are refundable only if we are notified at least
five (5) days prior to departure. Emergency circumstances must be approved
by the Board and voted by the Membership. YOUR CANCELLED CHECK IS YOUR RECEIPT . Any returned check is subject to the appropriate service
charge or legal process if necessary for collection. |

7.
Catered Meals will not be available on Train. On those days when local communities
provide food service (i.e. bar-be-que) you may purchase individual meals
directly from them. A sign up sheet will be available at Registration
in order to provide a "head count" to the dinner hosts. |
8.
Daily Departure Times will be announced by the Wagon Master at the prior
evening's meeting and will be posted on a Board at the Lead Hitch. |
