The Highway 50 Wagon Train Association has many fun filled activities guaranteed to entertain everyone in the family. There is a meeting each night at Lead Hitch - In addition you will experience the excitement of nightly campouts, BBQ and street dance, cowboy music, demonstrations, and endless fun.

Period Dress and Camping Supplies

(Era: 1840 - 1860's) Keep baggage light and pack in a sturdy duffle bag. All Wagons or Buggies must be Authentic Era - No plastic or pneumatic tires, and please dress in period attire from the 1840's to 1870's. No tanktops, T-shirts, halter tops or shorts. Thank You!

Following is a list of items you will likely want to bring:

Clothing: (Elevation changes from 8,000 - 2,000 ft, plan for all weather conditions)

  • 1-2 warm jacket, one with hood, 2-3 pair jeans, 2-3 blouses or shirts.
  • Hat with tie strings (no baseball caps) ladies or men; bonnet (ladies optional).
  • Clean underclothing and socks for each day.
  • Two pair boots or shoes well broke in, in case one pair gets wet.
  • Pj's, sweat suit to sleep in on cooler nights.
  • Pair gloves, apron (ladies optional).
  • 1-2 long pioneer-like dresses or long wrap around skirts with blouses (ladies); suspenders (men).
  • Tent - waterproof is best, just in case! Avoid the bigger tents, they are heavy and cumbersome; make sure there is a "fly" over the top.
  • Small hammer, tent stakes and poles.
  • Warm sleeping bag, pillow, blanket.
  • Lantern, toilet paper.
  • Pail and/or wash basin, towels, small mirror, metal cup, canteen.
  • Soap, brush, shaving items, shampoo, tooth brush and paste.
  • Campers, Rv's are welcome. (No sleeping wagons please!
  • Camera (extra film), sunscreen, insect repellant, tweezers, watch.
  • Pocket money, health insurance card, water, snack items (nuts and dried fruit are ideal).
  • Musical instruments (packed in sturdy cases); favorite craft items.
  • Small items to barter with, many people bring items to trade with other wagoners.
  • Horse saddle with clean cinch, clean saddle blanket.
  • Halter (if you do not have a halter-bridle).
  • Good lead rope with strong snap, halter, brush, curry comb.
  • Salve for sores, insect repellant, hoof pick.
    Sponge, bucket, leather for repairs, clean rags.
  • Feed.
  • Tie Line.
NOTE: Current Coggins Test and Health Certificates are required for all horses and mules. This is your responsibility.
  • Shuttle Service available to move support vehicles daily.
  • Water available.
  • Persons who wish to ride as passengers will be given special help and referral to Teamsters with seat space. Passengers may NOT move from wagon to wagon during the trip.
  • Minors are the responsibility of the parent or other adult chaperone.

Cancellations

  • If a cancellation is made 15 or more days prior to departure, a refund will be issued. Refunds after that date will be considered after Wagon Train and will be made at the discretion of the Wagon Train Association Board of Directors.
